#8 Robert McDole (2009) notes that another McCool Gen document is headed

“Descendants of John and Ann Magee”

John (Magee) McGee born Ireland 1799 married Ann U/K born 1800. He died 1872 and was buried Clinton Cemetery. He purchased Lot 37 Concession 9 of Goderich Township Huron County from the Canada Company in 1847 and settled there

If John Magee was an older brother to Ann Magee wife of Robert Brownlee this might explain why the Brownlees moved from Albion Township to the “Huron Tract”

Robert McDole wonders if Elizabeth McGee who married Robert Brownlee Jr  was a daughter of John Magee’s and thus the marriage of Robert Jr and Elizabeth was between first cousins.

NOTES

#1 Comment by Bob McDole Oct 2009 re age of James Brownlee

I   agree that there is a little confusion on the birth date of   James_

1861 census_ Age given as 39 years  means he was   born in about 1822

1871 census_ Age given as 55 years means he was born   in about 1816

1881 census_ Age given as 64 years means he ws born in   about 1817

Obituary states he was killed on Sept 7, 1886 at 65 years of age means he was born in 1820 or 1821

Gravestone says he was born in 1819

If  we take an average of all of  these years, we get 1819.

#19 Oct 2009 by Robert McDole

It is interesting that I went to my Clinton Public Cemetery directory and found a gravestone in Lot E26:

In Loving Memory of

William H. Brownlee

1854_1941

Tilley Marian Perrin

wife of

William H. Brownlee

1863_1937

I went to the family of James Brownlee, the older brother of Robert, Jr., in McCool's document and found the oldest son of James:

10. William Henry Brownlee b. 5 Jun 1854

On page 3 of the document:

10. William Henry Brownlee, b. 5 Jun 1854, Clinton ON, m. (1) Martha Pugsley.....  d. 10 Dec 1902, Saris Bluff, TX, buried Ravenna, TX,

William Henry m. (2) Tilley Marian Perrin b. 1862, Clinton ON, d. 1937 buried: Clinton Cemetery;

William died 22 Aug 1941 Clinton ON; buried: Clinton Cemetery

I have a hunch that the information about the marriage of William John Brownlee to Marian Perrin and the date of William John's death are incorrect.

So with William John Brownlee we lose track of him and have nothing on him except perhaps the year of his birth.  When I saw the info that McCool had on William John I thought that it did not support your theory about Margaret "bogging off" with the 3 kids.  Now it looks like they all disappeared as you said.

William H born 1854  had a wife Martha born about 1862  in 1881

Not yet found 1891 but still in Canada

In 1900 they were in Harris Cty Texas with family as listed by McCool and all born Canada

After that am lost tho David shows in1920 in Idaho with wife Jennie and 2 kids

I have not found Wm H after 1900 but he could have come back to Huron and remarried tho I have not found him in the 1911 census

Robert McDole (2009) notes that another McCool Gen document is headed

“Descendants of John and Ann Magee”

John (Magee) McGee born Ireland 1799 married Ann U/K born 1800. He died 1872 and was buried Clinton Cemetery. He purchased Lot 37 Concession 9 of Goderich Township Huron County from the Canada Company in 1847 and settled there (no Magees listed in 1879 atlas of Goderich Township)

If John Magee was a an older brother to Ann Magee wife of Robert Brownlee this might explain why the Brownlees moved from Albion Township to the “Huron Tract”

Robert McDole wonders if Elizabeth McGee who married Robert Brownlee Jr  was a daughter of John Magee’s and thus the marriage of Robert Jr and Elizabeth was between first cousins.

\

Note #9

October 28, 2009 from Robert McDole

I found a complicated story when I was studying the family of Robert Brownlee, Jr., and his first wirfe, Margaret.  You suggested that perhaps Margaret did not die but "bogged off" with the 3 children.  According to McCool (Genealogy of Brownlee Family) their 3 children were:

William John Brownlee

James Brownlee

Louise Brownlee

McCool added the following facts:

William John Brownlee b. 1854, m. Marian Perrin, b. 1863, d. 1937; William died 1941 [and referenced (superscript 2) a gravestone as the source of the information].

I went to my Clinton Public Cemetery directory and found a gravestone in Lot E26:

In Loving Memory of William H. Brownlee 1854_1941

Tilley Marian Perrin wife of William H. Brownlee 1863_1937

(1) Martha Pugsley.....  d. 10 Dec 1902, Saris Bluff, TX, buried Ravenna, TX, (William Henry m. (2) Tilley Marian Perrin b. 1862, Clinton ON, d. 1937 buried: Clinton Cemetery; William died 22 Aug 1941 Clinton ON; buried: Clinton Cemetery

I have a hunch that the information about the marriage of William John Brownlee to Marian Perrin and the date of William John's death are incorrect.  So with William John Brownlee we lose track of him and have nothig on him except perhaps the year of his birth.  When I saw the info that McCool had on William John I thought that it did not support your theory about Margaret "bogging off" with the 3 kids.  Now it looks like they all disappeared as you said.

Notes by RGM Oct 28 2008

I went tho the 1871 census on ancestry ca. looking for any Louise and siblings Robert and James and with Margaret as a Mother   nothing even partial.

No better luck in 1861 looking for a Robert and a John.

The 1861 census of Hullett show Robert with the family and he and his brother Thomas, John and George are all shown as single

#8 death of Mrs George Brownlee

REf: Robert McDole [mcdole@localaccess.com] I had not heard about the Paris Green.  I have her obituary dated May 1, 1903.

It states: "Mrs. George Brownlee ... was tken suddenly ill and with all that medical skill could do, passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 53."  "The deceased leaves ....  seven children ... Mrs H. Little and Robert who own farms adjoining their home."   Paris Green would cause a sudden illness!  And would probably be fatal if taken in large enough quantity.  Her grave stone says she died April 25, 1903, age 54 years.  I know that Robert's farm was in Lot 23, Concession IV in Tuckersmith Township and that George and Rebecca lived on adjoining property.

#9 Notes by Bob McDole Oct 2009

George Brownlee until about 1913 lived on a farm in   Concession IV Tuckersmith Township, Huron County, next to my grandfather,   Robert Brownlee, who lived on Block 23, Concession IV, Tuckersmith Township,   Huron County.  George died at his home on James Street in Seaforth (according to his obituary) on January 5, 1923, where he had lived since about 1913 when he moved from the farm in   Tuckersmth Township.   My uncle Albert Brownlee said (in his oral narrative on cassette tapes) that he,  Myrtle and Wilson lived with their grandfather, George  Brownlee, in Seaforth when they attended high school in Seaforth between about 1917 to 1921.

Comment I have no way of knowing is this the correct John Foster family

Jane born 1839 could have come with this family by 1840 or so to Stanley Township

They were living near Varna is not that far from Clinton and in 1850 Clinton was still part of Hullett Township so maybe Jane was working in Clinton when

William spied her!!
